AAUW of Iowa “Candy” Event Readies Caucus-Goers

In preparation for the February 1 Iowa caucuses, AAUW of Iowa Public Policy Co-directors Anne Johnson and Jane Nettleton hosted an online Caucus and Candy share-and-learn event. Participants learned about the history of the Iowa caucus and experienced how the process works from the comfort of their own living rooms!
In-person Caucus and Candy events were also held by the AAUW Algona (IA) and AAUW Palo Alto (IA) branches, where local speakers from both the Democrat and Republican parties offered a joint caucus training. In a fun twist, the “candidates” were candy bars, not people, so no one had to reveal his or her presidential preference.
At the end of the program, participants felt more empowered to attend their caucus and make a meaningful contribution! It’s My Vote pins and candidate question guides were available to all.
